Location: Queen Square, Bristol
This is a full time position in a team role, fulfilling the need for expansion within a busy web development team. The role involves developing websites using standards compliant coding, pioneering cutting edge web technologies and evaluating websites against global accessibility guidelines.
Duties include template development based on existing graphic designs, planning and specification of frontend development work, implementing and evolving Nomensa’s quality assurance process for front end code and integrating templates into Nomensa’s Content Management System (CMS) Defacto.
To apply for this job you must have experience in developing XHTML/CSS web pages and ideally would have an understanding of key accessibility concepts within web design. You will have a computing or relevant degree.
This position would ideally suit a graduate or web developer with 1-2 years experience.
You will be provided extensive training within the role and be mentored by Nomensa’s experience web development and accessibility experts.
The Role
- Developing web templates in XHTML/DHTML and CSS
- XML/XSLT
- Using a Subversion (SVN) version control system working as a team to deliver on projects.
- Ongoing support and consultancy for clients regarding accessibility issues
- Developing front-end solutions for web projects to the highest standards of accessibility
- Communication with systems integrators/clients to resolve issues with front end code implementation
- Conducting accessibility audits on a range of web sites
- Preparing and writing accessibility audit documents
- Developing solutions for web accessibility issues
- Investigating adaptive and assistive technologies
- Conducting internal research projects to promote and develop Nomensa accessibility practices
- Developing internal and external presentations about research.

The successful candidate will report directly to Nomensa’s Head of Accessibility, Léonie Watson. The web development team work normal office hours, but there is occasionally travel to client meetings or other offices and sometimes over night stays. Evenings and weekends are sometimes necessary for meeting deadlines.
