Head of Accessibility

Léonie Watson, Nomensa's Head of Accessibility Léonie heads the accessibility research programme at Nomensa, influencing accessibility strategy and ensuring that all developments meet appropriate legal obligations.

As an experienced web technologist, who just happens to be blind, Léonie brings an unusual insight into the world of online user experience. Drawing on her enjoyment of communication, Léonie is often asked to speak at conferences and events, promoting inclusive design, web accessibility and online social responsibility.
 
When not acting as spokeswoman and strategist for web accessibility, Léonie manages the Web Development team at Nomensa and leads on many critical client projects. Clients that Léonie has worked with include Guide Dogs for the Blind, Pampers, Waltham Forest Council and the United Nations.

Experience

Léonie has been working with digital technologies for over a decade and has many years of experience in the field of inclusive design.

Léonie is fully committed to raising the profile of accessibility and has been involved in several industry milestones. Invited to be a review panellist for PAS 78 guide to good practice in commissioning accessible websites, she is now part of the UK delegation influencing the European Union is I2010 strategy.

Léonie is also on the board of directors for the British Computer Association of the Blind (BCAB), where she brings together the strands of her personal and professional life to promote inclusive technology. As an internationally recognised web expert Léonie works with companies that include Freedom Scientific (private beta testing programme for the Jaws screen reader) and Adobe systems (beta testing).
