Challenge
Following a recent review of the Council’s corporate identity, Barnet established the need to redesign their website. Whilst refreshing the site in keeping with existing style guidelines, Barnet Council needed to offer improved online services and effective communication of their five key messages to its users.
Included in the objectives were the need to achieve consistency between online presence and offline media, to meet accessibility standards and lay a foundation to maintain these standards on the new live website.
Process
Nomensa research teams carried out stakeholder interviews and an expert analysis to capture the Council’s exact requirements.
Leading on from this research, Nomensa translated the new corporate guidelines into a new design and produced fully accessible templates.
Nomensa supported the integration of the templates into the Opentext CMS (Obtree) and acted as trouble-shooter for any HTML and CSS issues. Finally the Nomensa development team conducted a fully comprehensive quality assurance program on the website to ensure it meets accessibility requirements set by the ODPM.
Results
The result is a professional, dynamic website which has been recommended to all the councils as a best practice exmaple. It matches Barnet’s corporate identity whilst meeting stakeholder and user requirements. The website now offers improved online services and an ongoing programme will ensure that the user experience is constantly evolving.
