Challenge
Inclusivity is high on Haringey Borough Council's agenda. It is imperative for the Council to deliver an accessible online experience to the Borough's residents and in doing so satisfy government local authority guidelines.
Recognising the need to collaborate with an industry leading online user experience provider, Haringey Council teamed with Nomensa to fulfil their online objectives.
Process
To ensure a highly usable and intuitive experience could be provided to Haringey Council's diverse audience, the existing information architecture was reviewed and enhanced to ensure an easy to use and intuitive experience.
Using Haringey's existing brand values and character, the website's look and feel was developed to demonstrate design excellence.
Information Architecture and design were evaluated and refined using Haringey Council's audiences at key development points, ensuring an effective user-centred design. The new designs were then translated into 'triple-A' accessible templates by Nomensa's in-house team of specialist developers.
Outcomes
A visually-striking website that exceeds e-government standards, The site is also the first local authority website to achieve triple-A status against Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
Web traffic to the new website increased by over 1000% in its first 12 months, and has continued to be a popular online resource. Haringey Council enjoy a close relationship with Nomensa, by continuing to raise standards in Corporate Social Responsibility and online user experience for Haringey's citizens. An ongoing quality assurance and consultancy programme ensures that high standards are always maintained.
