Challenge
The existing APIG site was difficult to use, had complex information architecture and a dated appearance. It was also hard to maintain, requiring the technical knowledge and training to update. APIG employed Nomensa’s Content Management System (CMS); Defacto. The objectives of the project were to create a new look and feel, restructure the information and provide an easy to maintain and yet exemplary, accessible website.
Process
- An assessment of the existing website was conducted, to determining the scope and nature of the existing content. APIG’s goals were also determined;
- A new Information Architecture was developed; ensuring that content is easily and intuitively accessed;
- Using the existing APIG logo and brand values, Nomensa created a new look and feel which communicated APIG’s position as a cross-party discussion forum;
- Design templates were integrated into the Defacto CMS to allow the new APIG site consistency across all pages;
- Nomensa managed the process of migrating content from the old website to the new, ensuring that all was ready for launch;
- Training was provided to ensure APIG could fully manage its new, accessible web site into the future.
Outcomes
As part of Nomensa’s comprehensive CMS solution the look and feel of the web site was redesigned, reflecting APIG’s position at the forefront of debate on new media issues. Using Defacto means that the APIG team is assured of maintaining accessibility and a high standard of usability in the future. The new APIG website was launched complying with the W3C Triple-A standards of accessibility.
