Inclusive and accessible communications

As part of the International Visual Communication Association (IVCA) Mapcom event, Nomensa spoke to an audience of corporate and government delegates about the importance of inclusive and accessible communications within the public and private sector.

Held at Interbrand offices in London, Mapcom is one of the UK's most important annual events for their members and producers of corporate and public sector communications.

Hosted by Jill Cochrane, the event headlined speakers such as Sir Peter Gershon, former head of the Office of Government Commerce, Peter Lloyd from AV Magazine, Rita Clifton, Chair of Interbrand and Surinder Hundal, Nokia's Director of Global Internal Communications.

Simon Norris, managing director of Nomensa spoke about the basic human rights involved with online communications, and delivered a case study from the public sector that highlighted the Haringey Council Web Project. Léonie Watson, Nomensa's head of accessibility, spoke about the legal implications involved when communicating over the web, and closed by outlining the government legislation regarding web accessibility.

Mapcom was themed around understanding and meeting customers' ever changing needs. Speakers at the event delivered presentations that addressed the following issues:

  • Reputation Management;
  • Improving Staff Morale;
  • Increasing Performance;
  • Communicating Change;
  • Ensuring Social Inclusion in the Workforce;
  • Communicating an Effective commitment to CSR.

In its 7th year running, Mapcom examined best communication practice and was delivered to an audience of business communication directors, heads of human resources, public sector directors and producers of corporate communications.

Overall the event was a huge success, and proved to be of great value to all those who attended.
