A first for local authority websites
Haringey Council has been chosen by the Guild of Accessible Web Designers (GAWDS) to receive the first ever site of the month award. The recognition is for the council website, which features a highly accessible and human-centred interface.
Congratulations went to Nomensa for producing the website, which was the first in local councils to achieve a Triple-A standing for accessibility. The website and content management system demonstrate a leading style of communicating to citizens online.
The November award is the first round of its kind. Each month GAWDS members will nominate their favourite accessible websites. The best nominated site is chosen for the site of the month award.
GAWDS is a world-wide association of organisations and accessible web designers and developers. The association was formed to both promote and protect standards: not technical standards, but accessible design standards.
GAWDS vision is to:
Promote a future that assumes accessible web design to be relevant, obtainable, and not at odds with successful business practice or good visual and usable design.
