Nominated for their efforts in accessible web design, Haringey Council have been short listed to receive a Visionary Design Award from the National Library for the Blind (NLB). The awards recognise an outstanding effort in ensuring content is accessible to visually impaired people.

Also nominated to receive awards for online accessibility are Centrica and British Gas, both clients of Nomensa.

The awards are being presented at the Novatel Hotel, Euston Road in London, and will be hosted by Loyd Grossman. The awards are sponsored by Barclays.

Helen Brazier, NLB's Chief Executive, says:

"These awards are incredibly important. We estimate that less than a third of all websites are accessible to visually impaired people and our challenge to web designers and publishers is to create sites which are attractive and informative, but also comply with the Disability Discrimination Act by being accessible too."

The National Library for the Blind is a registered charity that believes visually impaired people should have the same access to books and information as sighted people. Their vision is to ensure that visually impaired people have the same access to library services as sighted people.
