First local government website to achieve Triple-A status
Haringey Council's new website (www.haringey.gov.uk) has been nominated for an accessibility award from the Royal Institute for the Blind (RNIB).
The Haringey Council website designed by Nomensa, brings together all of the existing council services into one portal, and is the first site in local government to achieve the highest globally accepted level of web accessibility set by the W3C, Triple-A priority level three. This level of accessibility allows all residents to access the service fully, and ensures that disabled visitors using the site can have full access.
The 'Simply the Best' awards celebrate the achievements of employers, companies and organisations which have made a big difference to the every day lives of blind and partially sighted adults and children. The nomination in the accessible information category, reflects the work that the authority has done on the site which has achieved a Triple-A rating, the highest award for accessibility. This means that it can be easily used by people with visual difficulties.
The Haringey Council website was redeveloped and relaunched in January this year. It is monitored constantly to ensure that all content and images are accessible.
Executive Councillor for Community Involvement Cllr Narendra Makanji said:
To be nominated for the awards is an honour. We worked very hard to achieve the triple A rating and it is a continuous process to maintain it. We are delighted that this has been recognised.

Under the Disability Discrimination Act we all have responsibilities to ensure that our services are accessible to everyone in the community. It's legislation that we welcome and are keen to comply with.
