Recognised for web accessibility
Haringey Council's website, www.haringey.gov.uk was recognised at the IVCA Clarion Awards yesterday, winning the category for CSR in Action - Web Accessibility.
Léonie Watson of Nomensa accepted the award that was presented and
sponsored by Hawkshead. The IVCA Clarion Awards took place for the
first time at Portcullis House, Westminster in London.
The
Haringey Council website designed by Nomensa, brings together all of
the existing council services into one portal, and was the first site
in local government to achieve the highest globally accepted level of
web accessibility set by the W3C, Triple A priority level three. This
level of accessibility allows all residents to access the service
fully, and ensures that disabled visitors using the site can have full
access.
Alun David, the Haringey Council project manager said,
Nomensa worked very closely with us to provide a seamless delivery of services that resulted in a great looking web site based on the needs, expectations, and aspirations of the Haringey's citizens. Their human centred design approach demonstrated consideration, and an attention to detail which was instrumental in helping the council achieve a highly accessible and usable site.

Upon accepting the award, Miss Watson claimed,
The success of the project was due to the collaborative and team effort between Nomensa, Deloitte, and the London Borough of Haringey working together as one.

The IVCA Clarions further accelerate a new momentum and commitment within the corporate world to communicating CSR. Informing employees, stakeholders and external markets of socially responsible behaviour is now seen as essential to the success of a business. The Clarion Awards recognised the extremely high standards of visual communications, and in their first year proved to be a valuable event towards promoting CSR.
