Santa versus the Elves!

Marrying their accessibility knowledge and design skills, Nomensa have created an accessible Macromedia Flash game in which Santa’s elves rebel against their hard task master, and snowball fight with the player in the workshop. ‘Revenge of the Elves’ features both visual and sound instructions, enabling everyone to take part in the seasonal fun.

The game follows on from the 2003 release of the Valentines ‘Blind Date’ game, (developed with the Royal National Institution of the Blind), and is a demonstration of Nomensa’s ability to be creative without compromising accessibility.

With this accessible Flash game, I can enjoy throwing snowballs at elves with the same sense of challenge as my sighted friends.

The game follows the premise that Santa has to work the elves very hard, to keep up with increasing spending on gifts, especially online.  A survey conducted by Retail Decisions found that 43% of British Christmas shoppers expected to use internet shopping this year (source: The Retail Decisions website).

This is thought to be because of increased take up of broadband in UK homes. As the audience for online shopping and services increases, websites will be forced to adopt an optimum user experience as competing sites emerge.

Creating an inclusive and user friendly user experience on your web site is just good business sense. In a really sophisticated way, you can communicate your brand values and offer the customer just what they want.

This game demonstrates how the Internet technology can be used to engage with everyone in new and interesting ways.
