Reaching web accessibility targets
This year, the fourth annual e-Champions Network Conference, organised by the GovNet Events and sponsored by the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) marked the final national gathering before the target date of 100 per cent e-enablement of all local authority services. Nomensa attended the conference to talk to delegates about reaching targets for web accessibility, and also to demonstrate Defacto, the fully accessible Content Management System.
Approximately 500 delegates, made up of e-champion councillors, officers and colleagues from both the public and private sectors, listened to talks on how e-government now needs to be mainstreamed across the whole organisation, and ways in which this can be achieved.
Speakers commented on how the focus for e-government needs to steer away from ICT and back office systems, to concentrating on the transformation to service improvement, improved service delivery to customers and the community, modernisation, and the efficiency agenda. Two European speakers provided an insight into e-government programmes in Germany and the Netherlands.
Lucy de Groot, IDeA Executive Director said:
With the target of 100 percent e-enablement only months away, I hope the conference has allowed delegates to celebrate the achievements and successes in delivering e-government.

She continued:
I hope it will also be an opportunity to look beyond 2005, as local government focuses on efficiency and the continuing drive to improve local services and the ways in which individuals access them.

The plenary programme was complemented by optional workshops, briefing sessions, and a full exhibition.
