Haringey Council Youth Space logoSince the launch of the website, its popularity has gone from strength to strength with a 300% increase in young people registering to the website. Website hits are increasing rapidly, with an average monthly hit rate of 8,000.

The new website has gained local credibility in provided young people with important information and keeping them up to date with current affairs, so much so that organisations such as the NHS, the Princes Trust and the UK Youth Parliament have approached Haringey Youth Space to market their content.

Nomensa, winners of an IVCA Clarion Award for its design on Haringey Council’s public website, conducted extensive usability studies with youth workers, council members and the young people of Haringey themselves, to identify what the Borough’s young people wanted and desired from the website.

The new website features real images of young people from within the Haringey Borough, representing the diversity of its audience. Young people of Haringey were also keen to have music on their website, using its accessibility expertise, Nomensa created a best-practice accessible audio player using Adobe Flash – a key feature of the website is ‘track of the day’ and ‘tracks chart’.

Overall the new website has successfully fulfilled its aim of creating a website that convinces young people to get more involved with the Borough’s activity, giving them a positive role within the community and increasing their understanding of what’s on offer to them and their involvement with political issues.

Recent statistics show that ‘Opportunity For U’ is the most frequently accessed web page on the website, demonstrating that a majority of Youth Space users are interested in:

  • Volunteering
  • Jobs & Careers
  • Apprenticeships
  • Entry to employment
  • Housing
