A new initiative aimed at encouraging local government services to develop their use of information communication technologies (ICT) has been launched.
The programme of events has been launched at the Society of Information Technology Management conference (Socitm) and hopes to boost development of ICT best practice in local authorities.
The first key event will be the EU Ministerial e-Government Conference in Manchester at the end of November, where Socitm will be holding an exhibition.
There will also be a number of reports issued on the transformation of ICT facilities within governments throughout the coming months.
Speaking to conference delegates, president of Socitm, Angela Waite, said a completely new model for development was needed to achieve all e-government goals.
"Transformation requires not just 'connecting' citizens but rethinking everything from a citizen point of view.
"Ultimately, this may mean completely redefining the business model and not simply re-engineering processes within an accepted business design," she explained.
