Blogs and podcasts caught the attention of judges at this year's association of online publishers (AOP) awards ceremony.
Media giant, Emap, won praise for its blog featured on Q4music.com.
Emap's WhatsOn.com site won the Launch of 2005 AOP award and its acclaimed live streams of Emap radio stations.
The BBC and the Guardian website also picked up a number of awards for their website innovations.
BBC.co.uk won Website 2005 Award for consumers after judges were impressed by the site's ability to boost unique visitors from 10 million per month in July 2004 to 25 million visitors every month a year later.
Reed Business Information picked up the award for Online Business Publisher 2005 for the second year in the row, thanks to various technological developments on the site.
The National Theatre's website, StageWork.org.uk won the Design 2005 Award for its site that allows visitors to go behind the scenes of leading theatre productions.
Around 650 people attended to the black tie ceremony at the Hilton on Friday night.
