Kirklees Council in West Yorkshire has won two awards for their web videos that use British sign language.

The two award winning videos provided information to visitors on health and social care.

The first video to win picked up an award from the association of social care communicators.

The National Information Forum awarded the second video for its innovative and effective methods of providing information.

"It's fantastic news for Kirklees council that we have won these awards, and more important, that the Deaf community have this information available on the council's website and in their own language," said councillor Dennis Hullock.

The videos were created by the united efforts of the social services for deaf people and the council's web development team.

Deaf people were consulted at every stage of the videos' development and played an important role in contributing to the content of the videos and to potential future releases.
