With a little help from the Internet, a new band managed to get their debut single in at number one.
"I bet you look good on the dancefloor" by the Sheffield rock group, the Arctic Monkeys, knocked the Sugababes off the number one spot after three weeks on top.
Their chart-topping success can be partly put down to their innovative use of the Internet in promoting themselves and building a fan base.
Their rise to success has been a word-of-mouth phenomenon enhanced by the power of the net, with a growing number of fans swapping MP3s online for months.
Arctic Monkey mania has been fuelled by the constant flow of information from the band itself who chat almost daily on the online forum.
Following the massive online self-promotion, Domino records, a label who also represent Franz Ferdinand, eventually picked them up.
