Three district councils in West Sussex have joined forces to pool ICT resources and boost the efficiency of service delivery to local people.
According to egovmonitor.com, the authorities have set up a Central Sussex Partnership known as CenSus, and aim to save around £1.1 million over the next five years by working together on e-government initiatives.
As part of the first stage of the new partnership, the group will coordinate efforts to deliver improved council services via the web and it plans to take over control of the council tax and business rates systems next year.
Following these developments there are plans to coordinate efforts over the payment of benefits later in 2006
Councillors hope the plans will help streamline the work of local authorities, prevent tasks being repeated or paperwork duplicated and in turn boost efficiency.
