A new website has been launched to encourage young people to get interested in politics and prevent future voting apathy.

Being Heard has been created by the Hansard Society and is aimed at 11 to 14 year olds, introducing them to and provoking debate on political ideas and practice.

It has been researched and tested by young people and aims to present important issues in a clear and appealing manner.

Users can discuss their political opinions with other young people online, take part in polls and even engage and question key political decision makers.

"The site enables young people to communicate with politicians, journalists and other interested people as well as their peers about subjects that really matter to them while at the same time educating them about political issues in a way that captures their imagination," said Michael Raftery, manager of the website.

The site is safe, secure and protected by a password.
