Internet sales by business saw massive increases, according to the latest annual e-commerce survey.

The 2004 results have been released, showing sales rising to £71.1 billion.

The report from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) demonstrated the growth of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTS), particularly among larger businesses.

The survey also found that almost a third (32 per cent) of businesses with more than one thousand employees made sales via the Internet, whilst almost three-quarters (70.3 per cent) bought products or services over the Internet.

Most businesses are now using the Internet to promote themselves, with 98.1 per cent of larger companies having their own website in 2004.

Over a third (33.8 per cent) of all firms were recorded as having a website in 2004.

Profits from Internet sales to households are are also booming with sales rising to £18.1 billion last year, compared to £10.8 billion in 2003.
