Bristol council pledged to donate money to the children's charity, Barnardo's, to encourage online school applications.
The incentive to get parents online succeeded in ensuring almost half of next September's intake applied for their place online.
This equates to a rise of almost 40 per cent on last year's e-Admission statistics.
The amount pledged to Barnados rose with every application and has reached around £2,328.
It has helped beat the government target for online admissions by 20 per cent.
"We are delighted that almost 50 per cent of parents and carers have applied online and on time - a staggering amount, especially when compared with last year," said councillor Jos Clark.
The charity pledge was also accompanied by a month-long bus poster campaign encouraging parents to apply online.
