A web-based game has been launched to encourage kids to eat healthily.

With programmes such as Jamie Oliver's School Dinners showing that many of our children don't know a leek from a potato, this game hopes to educate youngsters about nutrition.

The game "Mission Inedible" stars a fat-busting superhero, who must stop the citizens of Fatopolis sinking into a lifetime of obesity.

He must battle against his arch-nemesis, the mayor, Mr Inedible, to ensure the people get a balanced diet.

The game has been created by the health education charity, Life Education, and is available to all primary schools who click onto the charity's website.

"It is hoped that this new game will really complement our work and help us to reach even more children with the message that healthy eating is imperative," commented Stephen Burgess, the director of Life Education.

The charity is one of the largest of its kind, reaching around 850,000 children a year.

Its work to get the healthy living message to children in the early stages of the development is helped out by their talking mascot, Harold, the puppet giraffe.
