The BBC is to launch a new online learning service for children in the new year.
Known as BBC jam, the e-learning programme is aimed at five to 15 year-olds, complementing the work and activities that children and young people do while at school.
The company Cimex has recently been selected by the BBC to provide some of the site's content and to help develop parts of the programme dealing with physical education (PE) and special education needs (SEN) science for blind users.
"What is particularly exciting about the opportunity to develop the PE and SEN Science resource is it just hasn't been tackled in this way before so we are breaking new ground," Ian Haynes, director at Cimex told the website, NetImperative.
He added that the new web-based learning programme will differ from other learning packages through being more focused on the needs of the children than the teachers.
"Traditionally, educational interactive learning content is developed to support teachers in the classroom.
"However, the BBC jam content will be designed to motivate and inspire the individual learner," he explained.
