The Europe Direct scheme is set to launch in the UK aimed at providing the public with the latest information on developments within the European Union (EU).
Around 400 Europe Direct outlets are in use in other EU states where via an information relay, local people can access information online, by phone or in person.
The outlets act as an intermediary between the EU and the local citizens, allowing people to get advice and answers to questions on the role of the union at a local level.
They also aim to promote local and regional debates of EU policies and allow the public to send feedback on EU institutions.
The European Commission is now calling for local and regional authorities and other public bodies in the UK to host one of the 35 planned information relays.
The commission has allocated around £570,000 worth of funds for the UK, with each shortlisted host receiving around £16,000 each year for the three-year Europe Direct programme.
