North Cornwall council wants to engage more with its local communities by getting the public to register their its details on the council's website.
By making the council more citizen-centric, local people will be able to receive information about relevant council issues and services, either via email or SMS.
This new service will be made possible through the use of an integrated content management solution (CMS) and a customer relationship management system (CRM).
"Online consultations on subjects that interest the citizen will become commonplace and if it is easier to request a service via an online form," said David Witts, head of ICT at the council, told the website publictechnology.net.
"This method of communication will become very popular, and hence it will increase interaction via the website," he added.
He went on to say that developing more a citizen-centric form of local government would only boost the efficiency of local services, ensuring that business was conducted in a more modern and efficient manner.
According to publictechnology.net, the future of e-government in Cornwall looks set to follow Dorset, with proposals to develop a similar online service to the website dorsetforyou.com.
This local government site offers a joined-up A to Z of all the services provided by the seven local councils. It also provides a central point for regional advertising and applications for public sector job applications.
