Swansea council's cabinet has signed up to a deal to transform the way the council is run, in one of the biggest e-government programmes attempted in Wales.

The initiative is aimed at revolutionising the way the local authority manages its finances, HR, payroll and procurement.

It will see the introduction of a computer system that will replace the current 25 separate systems, aiming to speed up processes and cut down on bureaucracy.

"This decision is of immense significance to the people of Swansea. The deal will transform the way the council operates, " explains Mary Jones, a cabinet member of the council.

"We will be giving our staff tools to do the job of becoming a modern, efficient council meeting the needs of our customers."

She added that this deal would lead to savings of approximately £26 million gained through improving the management and delivery of services.
