EADS Astrium in Stevenage is today the recipient of global praise for designing and constructing the Inmarsat-4 satellite, which has the potential to revolutionise high-speed broadband accessibility.
The world's largest and most sophisticated commercial communications satellite will support London-based Inmarsat's Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) that will provide seamless mobile voice and broadband Internet connectivity around the world.
"EADS Astrium has again demonstrated its technical expertise by designing and building such a complex and flexible spacecraft featuring the most advanced technologies," CEO of Inmarsat Andrew Sukawaty commented.
"The extraordinary I-4 fleet of satellites will allow Inmarsat to provide mobile users with high speed Internet connectivity virtually anywhere in the world."
Three I-4 satellites will be launched in total as part of the global broadband network thought to be costing in the region of £1 billion.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
