In a move to spread the access to information technology Gordon Brown today announced measures to extend the scheme where computers are leased to older school children.
In other areas of interest to the IT industry the Chancellor extended the research and development tax credit for medium sized businesses.
Mr Brown said that Britain must also become the "world's leading centre" for research, science and knowledge-based industry.
The planned £21 billion in savings recommended in the Gersion review are also likely to be good news for the industry as departments move to more efficient IT systems.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
