Singapore Airlines has introduced the world's first inflight broadband service allowing high speed Internet accessibility for flyers 35,000 feet in the air.

The Connexion by Boeing service has been installed for use through wireless-enabled laptops and offers flawless real-time connections to corporate virtual private networks.

The service will be available on all three daily London to Singapore flights as from June this year with plans in place to introduce Connexion by Boeing to at least 40 Singapore Airlines aircrafts within the next few years.

"This new Internet service opens up a whole new world of entertainment, information and business options for our customers," commented Singapore Airlines' senior vice president, product and services, Yap Kim Wah.

"Clearly, we are not stopping here and will continue to add new applications to further enhance the system," Mr Wah added.

The cost of utilising this service has been split into a fixed rate contract charge and a metered 'pay-as-you-use' charge.

Users will be able to purchase a 30-minute starter pack from £3.99 with additional minutes charged at 15 pence on the metered system, or an unlimited usage package priced from £15.99.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
