Analysts have today responded to newly published figures confirming continued high rate broadband growth by describing the escalation as emphatically "unstoppable".
Latest research from Infonetics shows that sales of customer premise equipment (CPE) broadband kit (modems, routers etc.) have leaped to £2.4 billion during the past 12 months, a 15 per cent rise on 2003.
A total of 73 million units were shipped during 2004, the report adds, which represents a massive 74 per cent year-on-year rise.
But the growth doesn't stop there. Shipments are now expected to soar 191 per cent to almost 200 million between now and 2008.
Richard Webb, directing analyst at Infonetics Research and lead author of the report, commented: "As DSL outpaces growth in other forms of broadband access, DSL CPE becomes an even more significant proportion of the overall CPE market.
"However, while unit growth continues apace throughout our forecast period, CPE prices erode, inhibiting overall revenue growth for broadband CPE," Mr Webb added.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
