When it comes to finding home and car insurance, Internet research is proving to be an increasingly essential consumer tool, says the AA.
In a recent survey the group found that 75 per cent of customers now use the Internet to research the insurance market before they buy and approximately 40 per cent of all new car insurance and about a fifth of home cover is now arranged online
"Even those who do not have access to a computer often ask computer-literate friends or family to do the searching for them, but complete the deal offline," says AA Insurance's head of marketing, David Tyers.
"But the number of customers buying online is growing fast," he added.
Last year, the Internet saw sales of car insurance grow by nearly two-thirds (64 per cent) while Internet home insurance sales doubled.
Mr Tyers also pointed out that the ability to buy online was creating greater competition in the marketplace.
"The growth of online cover is certainly contributing towards keeping premiums in check," he said.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
