Explorations into on-the-move Internet technologies are leading the way for an innovation revolution, according to a top IT chief.

Intel executive vice president, Sean Maloney has said today that advanced consumer technologies such as mobile broadband Internet are providing huge and exciting accessibility opportunities for individuals.

"The industry is driving a new wave of innovation that feels a lot like the early days of the Internet era," commented Mr Maloney.

"Before Internet technologies, there was a tremendous amount of information in computers around the world - but it was locked into one location, one terminal, one user.

"Now, with innovations in Wi-Fi and Wi-Max technologies along with developments to make smarter, more efficient laptops, cell phones and PDAs, the industry can help take that experience even further and bring it to more people than ever before."

Mr Maloney added that he expects millions of new Internet users to access e-services through the use of low-cost wireless technologies in the coming 12 months.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
