Hundreds of sources from the British Library's unique collections have been put on the Internet to create a major new online resource for English and History.

Aimed at secondary school students the Texts in Context project enables students to explore how English language and style have continually evolved and changed over time.

Many different types of texts are of available: recipes, handbills, leaflets, advertisements, letters, logbooks, reports, anecdotes, treatises, satires, catalogues, edicts and legal pronouncements, guide books and dictionary entries.

The site is organised into themes with each section providing digital images of original texts and background information.

Teachers get the benefits of ideas for research enquiries, creative activities and museum visits.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
