The rise and rise of Internet connectivity in the UK is showing little sign of abating with new figures showing that there was a 1.9 per cent increase in subscriptions from February 2004 and February 2005.
Furthermore, people are taking to the benefits of high access speeds with broadband connections now standing at 43 per cent of all connections - compared to 23.6 per cent of connections in February 2004, the figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
In February 2005,the indices of active subscriptions for dial-up and permanent connections were 77.3 and 7496 respectively when compared to their base of 100 in January 2001.
There was a year on year increase of 85.9 per cent for subscriptions for permanent connections, with a monthly increase in February of 5.7 per cent.
According to the ONS the increase in the market share for permanent connections reflects the continuing move from slower dial-up connections to the quicker broadband, cable and leased line technologies.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
