According to a new study of broadband penetration and take-up by UK constituency Cardiff tops the league.

Produced by broadband consultancy Point Topic, the UK broadband map found that more than 37 per cent of residents in Cardiff Central have broadband Internet.

Cardiff North came second with just under 36 per cent, but there was mixed news for Wales as a whole with seven of the ten constituencies with the least broadband take-up made up of rural Welsh areas.

The greater London constituencies of St Albans and Watford took third and fourth place with 35.5 per cent and 35 per cent respectively.

At the time of the last general election in 2001 the UK had barely 195,000 broadband lines this rose to 6.1 million at the end of 2004 and is predicted to hit 7.5 million by election day on May 5.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
