According to new research local government is set to continue its heavy investment in e-services and by 2008 total spending will equate to more than £180 per household.

Kable research has claimed that councils in the UK will spend more than £4 billion by 2008.

This works out at spending of £184 per household on e-government over seven years, or £26 per year.

The new technology is predicted to result in efficiency gains among councils of £968 million in cashable savings between 2001-08.

Kable based the research on the latest statements on Implementing Electronic Government (IEG), which set out how each council plans to achieve its e-services targets by the end of this year.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
