Plymouth county council has is taking advantage if the cost savings and usability benefits of the Internet by posting planning applications online.
The move to put planning applications on the council's website is expected to save the city's Council Tax payers around £24,000 a year.
Councillor Jean Nelder, cabinet member for Planning, Policy and Regeneration, said: "We have made huge improvements to our Planning Service in the last 18 months and this is another step to make the service as efficient and open as possible.
"Many other authorities have already stopped this form of advertising as developments in technology, such as the Internet, means we can put this information on our own website at no extra cost.
"People can access this either through their home computers or on the computers which they can use for free in our libraries."
The project reflects moves by increasing numbers of councils to move services online to save costs and improve access.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
