Officials from Whitehall have today given their backing to a new IT industry body designed to increase standards of professionalism.
The Managed Awareness Programme has been designed by the British Computer Society (BCS) plus key industry and Whitehall figures.
The scheme is intended to enforce standards of integrity and best practice, in continuation from the work already carried out by the organisation in the establishment of a new qualification, the Chartered IT Practitioner.
BCS chief executive David Clarke outlined the need to increase awareness and knowledge of IT developments.
"Following recent high-profile IT project failures, there has been a rapid understanding of the need to improve the quality of product and service in IT if business and society is to secure the real benefits which the technology has to offer," Mr Clarke said.
"If we are to embed professional standards and professional qualifications in IT practice - in the way in which for example personnel management standards and qualifications are now embedded in HR practice - we need to work with the key stakeholders," he added.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
