The issues of accessibility and usability are to assume a far more central role within government IT policies, a new report has revealed.

According to eGov monitor, the move will see far stricter accessibility and usability requirements formally introduced which will be put towards benefiting public sector information systems.

The new regulations will also stipulate and rigorously enforce the idea that government information systems must neither disadvantage nor exclude any users with a disability.

If official approval is given as expected, the new measures will form part of the e-government Interoperability Framework that constitutes the technical standards and specifications supporting the UK's eGovernment strategy.

A deadline of July 17th has been set for a final decision.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
