Nearly half of the UK's online population now utilise the Internet for banking services, according to a new study.
Research from analysts NOP World Financial revealed that 49 per cent of people are now banking online, a figure up from just 31 per cent 12 months ago.
In total, more than ten million consumers in the UK now use the Internet in this way, a figure up 28 per cent from last year.
Howard Barber, associate director at NOP, suggested the increase has been brought about by improved familiarity with, not just banking service sites, but the Internet as a whole.
"Once they've been online two or three years, consumers tend to start adding to the portfolio of what they do online," said Mr Barber.
"Once they start, they don't tend to fall away - the churn rates are very low."© DeHavilland Information Services plc
