More people in the UK are using the Internet for travel and holidays than any other reason, a new report has revealed today.

According to eMediaWire, more than one-third of all online consumer spending in Britain is now accounted for by travel with more holidays being booked via the Internet than with traditional travel agents.

The new report continues to predict that within 12 months more than 25 per cent of all hotel reservations will be made via the web.

Internet usage will also help the value of independently booked holidays soar by almost 80 per cent to more than £21 billion by 2010.

"Market trends strongly indicate that web-based bookings are the way forward for the tourist industry," said one industry expert.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
