The largest provider of employment services for disabled and disadvantaged people has today launched a new drive to ensure companies are meeting accessibility regulations as outlined in the Disability Discrimination Act.
National charity Shaw Trust hopes its Web Accreditation (STWA) service will be taken up by the huge number of firms still not in appliance with the terms.
According to Onrec.com, the service includes rigorous scrutiny by a team of expert testers with disabilities, which then if approved, gains a unique official stamp of approval.
Highly respected Guild of Accessible Web Developers (GAWD) has endorsed the scheme and is hoping to help drive up accessibility standards in the UK.
"Automated testing has been done for years, but it only tells part of the story," explained Andrea Kennedy, adaptive technology and STWA co-ordinator for Shaw Trust.
"Our team adds actual hands-on testing by people experienced in Internet surfing using adaptive technology. They offer the ultimate test."
