A businessman in Scotland is using the Internet not only to boost business at local restaurants but also to raise cash for charity in the process.

Bill McCorie, owner of Internet Business Systems, has created a system that charges the restaurant a fee of £1.50 for each successful booking made. £1 is then donated to Children's Hospice Association of Scotland (CHAS) and 50p is retained to help run the system.

According to the Scotsman the website, called 123Dine.co.uk, has more than 3,000 restaurants listed, 600 of which can be booked directly over the Internet.

One company that has joined up to the service is festival Inns

Iain Pert, director of operations at the restaurant chain, said: "Our customers benefit by being able to access our varied selection of restaurants and bars, their menus and special offers while we are able to contribute to the excellent ongoing work of CHAS."

Mr McCorie said: "It struck me that rather than donate cash we could use the skills and knowledge of IBS to develop a business model that benefited everyone involved, with CHAS being the major beneficiary."© DeHavilland Information Services plc
