Mobile phone giant Vodafone has launched a new phone designed specifically for people who are visually impaired.
The Vodafone Speaking Phone relays text as audio, describes the menu's icons and allows blind people to listen to, compose and send their own messages.
The innovative phone has been designed by Vodafone Italia in collaboration with the Italian Association for the Blind.
Consumers will be able to get their hands on the new phones at Dishow later this year, an exhibition that exhibits technology aimed at improving the quality of life of disabled persons.
"We believe that the Vodafone Speaking Phone can help to improve the quality of life of the visually impaired who, in this way, can take full advantage of the services and all the opportunities offered by mobile telephony," said director of Vodafone Italia's north-western region, Giovanni Orestano.
Mr Orestano added that he believes it important for Vodafone to set itself more "ambitious goals" to help "improve certain aspects of life".© DeHavilland Information Services plc
