Solaris Nanosciences has revealed it is to receive funding from the World Gold Council (WGC) for its anisotropic gold nanorod technology.
The technology is being developed to improve Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD) and are hoped to boost display viewing angle performance of mobile phones, computer screens, televisions and cameras.
In addition, it could help restore vision for people suffering from retinal diseases.
Dr Nabil M. Lawandy, CEO of Solaris Nanosciences, said: "We are excited to be working with the support of the World Gold Council in this application of our nanomaterials for improved LCDs.
"The funding will accelerate the commercialization of our nanostructure additives for higher performance displays. This effort will also directly benefit the development of our gold- based materials."
Solaris is a developer and manufacturer of nanomaterials that are then used to significantly enhance optical response in large market applications.
The use of gold for the nanoscale rod structures is a necessity since it is non-toxic, inert, does not degrade in sunlight and has the ideal optical parameters for the required colours.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
