Increased Internet and broadband accessibility is fuelling ever rising film and music downloads, a trend the UK's retailers are seeking to exploit.

A BBC report published today draws attention to this new use of the Internet and also claims that it is being spearheaded by retail giant Tesco.

Tesco is reportedly planning to launch a film downloading service "as soon as possible" as a follow up to its successful online music sector introduced several months ago.

Although the UK's supply of broadband is not yet up to speed to handle movie downloads, Tesco is hopeful that supply will improve suitably in the near future.

Tesco currently holds a ten per cent share of Internet music sales and expects a similar market share when its foray into the movie download market commences.

Rival retailers are known to share Tesco's ambitious plans for the incorporation of the Internet into its media sales section and experts are predicting similar introductions from rival firms in the near future.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
