An original idea to offer a virtual house touring service via the Internet for prospective buyers has been recognised by one of Britain's leading political magazines, the New Statesman.
eGov Monitor reports that Home Connections Virtual Tours has been nominated for a New Media Award in the accessibility category as reward for its useful site.
The Virtual Tours service allows home seekers who cannot otherwise travel to a property to view every room within a house in detail online. The service also provides panoramic exterior views.
Particular praise has been given to the service's value for people who are have mobility impairments which might restrict their ability to either look round a house or simply travel to the site.
The enhanced accessibility features of Virtual Tours also means it can also be used by those with visual impairments or learning and language difficulties.
"Society has always been promised a great deal by the digital revolution," comments John Kampfner, editor of the New Statesman.
"The 2005 New Media Awards will highlight the projects that have really delivered on that promise."© DeHavilland Information Services plc
