New research has shown that Europeans believe the EU economy can become more competitive only by applying the most advanced technologies.

Two Eurobarometer reports have revealed that 64 per cent of EU citizens felt that advancing technologically is fundamental to the EU's economic status.

The reports analyse the results from two public opinion surveys carried out for the first time in 32 European countries.

They demonstrate a common European opinion that developments in technology at home and at work significantly enhances society.

A total of 87 per cent agree that technology has improved their quality of life and 77 per cent believe they will continue to do so for future generations.

The survey also showed that the vast majority of Europeans think that US technology is more sophisticated US, with only 12 per cent of those questioned thinking that Europe is ahead of the US.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
