Broadband has become one of the most valuable tools within the home with a large majority of the UK's mothers in particular claiming that high speed Internet has actually helped ease their daily life, according to new research.

The survey conducted by consumer ISP UK Online revealed that of 1,000 UK mums with children aged four to 16, a total of 68 per cent believe that life has been made easier with the advent of broadband.

Three out of four mums report that broadband has become near essential for their 11-16 year-old kids for home schoolwork purposes while 51 per cent of those questioned cited broadband access as the most important thing to provide for their children at home.

In addition, two thirds claim that phone bill concerns have been all but wiped out while a similar figure (61 per cent) notes that there have been fewer family arguments about who's using the phone line thanks to multi-access broadband.

Chris Stening, UK Online's general manager, commented: "I'm delighted that the UK's mums are so switched on to the benefits of broadband, not only because it makes life easier, but also because of the huge benefits for their children's education."

The report did reveal however that 27 per cent of mums are still citing costs as their main reason for not signing up to broadband.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
