The Internet is encouraging a growing number of people to search for and find employment, a new report has revealed.

According to a UK national online recruitment survey, 45 per cent of job seekers now use the Internet as their preferred method of looking for a job while a massive 75 per cent of people questioned admit to having applied for at least one job online.

An additional 59 per cent of Britons have obtained an interview as a result of an online application with a further 44 per cent actually securing a job through the Internet.

The Sunday Times Business Times 'work in life survey' revealed that this proliferation in use of the Internet for job searches is closing in on the most popular method of job hunting which remains looking through newspaper recruitment pages.

These findings have also been found to be in direct correlation with the increase of website use for employment purposes in the corporate field.

iLogos Research found that around 90 per cent of blue chip and major stock market-listed firms now recruit via the Internet.

This figure is notably up from just 30 per cent registered back in 1998.
